Harlow Renaissance subscribes to the aspiration for Harlow as set out in the Harlow 2020 vision: -

“A clean, safe, sustainable and healthy town with good educational prospects for its citizens, a variety of homes and jobs to meet local needs, and a range of sporting, leisure and cultural opportunities contributing to a higher quality of life.”

This has been supplemented by the statement in Harlow District Council’s Regeneration Strategy in connection with Harlow’s regional economic role: -

“A sustainable sub-regional centre with a vibrant, diverse and high-performing economy, and the infrastructure to support.”

To achieve this we would wish to see the following for Harlow within the next ten years:

  • To be recognised as a good example for neighbourhood renewal in terms of integrating the old and the new
  • People coming from further afield to shop in Harlow, to a vibrant town centre with lively evening pastimes
  • Harlow to be below average in terms of deprivation within Essex
  • Re-creation of the image that Harlow had upon its formation 60 years ago as an example of success and innovation
  • Better infrastructure with higher quality public transport, road and cycleways, completion of a new motorway junction and work underway on the A414 bypass
  • Completion of major urban extensions in line with the final East of England Plan
  • All housing to have met the decent homes standard and the achievement of a mixed housing profile across the town
  • Growth of local major businesses resulting from a skilled and knowledgeable workforce
  • Large and medium companies proactively seeking to come to Harlow because of what it can offer in terms of location, facilities and people
  • An increase in the range of jobs on offer, as well an increase in the range of further and higher education provision with the University Centre development with Harlow College
