Latest Update: Outline planning consent for the development of a new health centre was granted in November 2008. Harlow Health Centres Trust are now appointing architects to design the new health centre and the will then commission its construction.
Staple Tye is a key centre for the Southern Corridor of Harlow and an important catalyst to the regeneration of the whole area. This project sets out a number of strategic property-led moves which will contribute to the physical and socio-economic regeneration of the area and provide additional housing units to meet the needs of the existing local residents and future population growth. The project will deliver new health, community and leisure facilities, enabling the release of land for future housing developments and trigger the regeneration of the wider area.
Why it is important that the project is delivered:
The Staple Tye ward is the most deprived ward in Harlow (Index of Multiple Deprivation, 2004). The Staple Tye Shopping Centre is the key neighbourhood centre for the area. The centre and its environment require renewal in order to reposition it as a key neighbourhood asset and facilitate further housing growth.
An outline of what the project will achieve:
An Outline Planning Application has been submitted for the delivery of a brand new 2,000 sqm health centre, and improved community and leisure facilities. A second phase will include the preparation of a masterplan for the wider targeted area, and the delivery of the first in a series of housing developments.
How the project will support growth:
This project will start a series of initiatives which will deliver a new and bigger health facility needed to serve the growing population in the area. The land released by the new health centre development will then become available for a new housing development. The project has also developed thinking for a more comprehensive scheme to provide additional housing and create better linkages to the neighbourhood shopping centre.
