Latest update:
Old Harlow - Faircroft, Little Bays
Moat Homes have been appointed by Harlow Council and Harlow Renaissance to develop and build a new housing scheme. Consultation on these proposals will take place between July and September 2009. The first consultation meeting took place at St John's ARC at 7.30pm on 21st July 2009.
The aim of this project is to support the development of Old Harlow into a vibrant and attractive local neighbourhood centre with a selection of high quality shops, restaurants and town houses. This will be achieved through maximising the development potential of the area by making strategic changes in the land uses, which will enable the delivery of new residential and retail units, a much bigger health centre, and better designed open spaces.
Why it was important that the project is delivered:
The project envisages the provision of amenities for future developments in Harlow East to meet the needs of future housing initiatives, and capitalise on its potential as a tourist attraction for visitors to the town.
The project will support the growth and diversification of Harlow’s housing offer and transform an area of poor quality temporary housing into an attractive new mixed tenure residential development. There has been limited new development within Harlow’s existing neighbourhoods and this project will enable the delivery of the first phase of a rolling programme of housing, retail, health and community projects focused on Old Harlow.
How the project supports growth:
The project delivers a number of strategic property-led moves. It enabled the re-location of temporary housing provision and facilitated extensive local consultation and design work to provide additional housing units to meet the needs of the existing local residents and future residents anticipated under the growth agenda.
As well as providing additional housing units, in the longer term, the project will widen and strengthen the range of health, community and social infrastructure which is vital to supporting the needs of the current and future growing population to the east of Harlow.
