Alongside the extensive campaign marketing literature a number of activities and sponsorship have taken place, a selection of which we highlight below:
Harlow Town Show
Harlow Renaissance has been delighted to take a marquee each year at Harlow Council’s Town Show.
In 2007 and 2008 visitors voted for the winning entries in the environmental Hotspots competition. In 2007 pupils from Paringdon School presented their models and ideas for the refurbishment of Market Square whilst in 2009 we presented the official plans for the Harlow Town Centre North redevelopment. Visitors told us what Harlow meant to them and where their favourite place in Harlow was. We quizzed people on the history of Harlow with winners taking away Harlow – see something different goodie bags. Local artists kept all ages entertained with cardboard playgrounds, sculpture banners and family cut-outs appearing over the years.
Sculpture Town
In 2009 Harlow Art Trust formally proposed that Harlow be designated “Harlow Sculpture Town” due to its enviable collection of public art. The proposal was formally adopted by Harlow Council with Brown Signs being erected by Essex County Council in December 2010. Under the Branding campaign we have supported a number of promotional activities organised by the Art Trust and Friends of Harlow Sculpture including the redesign of the Sculpture Map, sculpture workshops at Harlow Museum and Parndon Mill and the formal launch event.
Ambassador Programme
Harlow can be justifiably proud of all its residents, notably the many who have gone onto world class success in the sporting field. In May 2010 Acer Nethercott, Silver Olympic Medallist in Rowing told a packed room of business people from across Essex why he was proud to have been born and raised in the town. In January 2011 we supported Essex County Council’s exhibition ‘Journey to the Podium’ with Harlow Council who organised three workshops with athletes from Harlow, artists and local school pupils to creatively help raise aspiration of young people.
Science Alive
A remarkable facility to be found in Harlow Leisure Zone, Science Alive offers the opportunity for families and schools to have a ‘hands-on’ science experience. One of the only facilities of this type outside of London we have supported a series of workshops and teacher resource activities.
Visit Harlow
In 2008 Harlow Renaissance took over the management of http://www.visitharlow.com/ with administration support provided by Harlow Council Regeneration Team. The site acts as the Tourist Information portal for venues and events across the town for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
Media Workshop
For the Harlow –see something different campaign to continue to succeed it is strongly felt that Harlow as a town must be more proactive in promoting its achievements. In conjunction with Harlow College a workshop on ‘How to work successfully with the media’ was presented to a large group of local businesses to help them write effective press releases for both local and national press.
